In Belgium and at the present time, the human mind structures the landscape of fellow beings into men and women. We think this binary split has existed since the dawn of time, everywhere. How many times do we refer to famous hunter-gatherers and their gender patterns as the image and origin of present-day society ? And yet, contradictions and complementarities abound ! Whether it’s elsewhere on the globe or deep in the past… Traditions evolve from one point to another in space and time.

Indonesia offers us such examples : could we structure the landscape of fellow beings not in two but five different genders ? What a magnificent opportunity to shatter boundaries and evolve our vision/binary division ! If we remove the need to choose between two genders, we no longer have to talk about « gender issues » but genderS. We can still suggest new answers to this question. And what better way to do this than to draw from other traditions ?

Arco Renz is artistic director of Brussels based dance company Kobalt Works, creating choreographies in Europe and Asia. An important aspect of his activities is the development of research and exchange between European and Asian artists. Since 15 years he is engaged in collaborative performance projects of very different nature in Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Laos, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, Japan… 
Monsoon, a series of research and collaboration platforms bringing together Asian and European artists is an on-going project with editions in Europe, Asia and Australia. 
Arco Renz studied dance, theatre, and literature in Berlin and Paris before joining the first generation of P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels. He has been invited to curate the EUROPALIA Indonesia performing arts program.

Intan Paramaditha has published several short story collections and a play in Indonesian. She has a PhD in film studies and a BA in English literature. Her research focuses on media, cultural activism, and sexual politics in the convergence and tension between national and cosmopolitan trajectories.

Norman Erikson Pasaribun is an emerging poet and short story writer. His sophisticated narratives and lyrics give a voice to the silenced world of the LGBT community in Indonesia. His anthology of poetry won the Jakarta Arts Council in 2015.

Isabelle Bats was born in Charleroi (B) in 1969 and considers herself a writer and performer. Her plays were produced at La Balsamine, Théâtre Océan Nord, Halles de Schaerbeek. She has played and edited various plays since 1994 at the Théâtre de la Balsamine, the Brigittines or the Théâtre de la Vie, the Botanique or the Circus d'Hiver in Liège, as well as in Edinburgh, Utrecht or Amiens. She’s currently working on a new (autobiographical) project, Girl/fille, questioning the subjects of gender, sexual orientation, sex, womanhood, Charleroi, tennis, rock n’ roll, fireworks, divination and new burlesque … (amongst other things). Together with Mathias Varenne, they are the curators for Crash Test (performance evenings at Le Brass - Centre Culturel de Forest).

Sophie Aujean works in the fields of health and education. She contributes to securing effective legal protection against discrimination in access to education and health services and to end the pathologisation of trans identities. Her tasks include monitoring the development of the EU, the Council of Europe and other institutions’ agendas in these fields, and the implementation of relevant European and national policies and legislations.
