Jean-Paul Muel débute au Café-théâtre, puis de 1971-1975 participe en tant que comédien à tous les spectacles du Grand Magic Circus de Jérôme Savary . Il a joué sous la direction de Jean-Pierre Vincent, Jacques Weber, Daniel Benoin, Pierre Mondy, Gérard Desarthe, Patrice Kerbrat et à participer à plus de cinquante films.
